LAKEVILLE - We are excited to team together with Jersey Mike's Subs as they sponsor a Player of the Week at LaVille High School! Coaches and LaVille Athletic Department personnel will select various student-athletes from baseball, boys golf, boys track and field, girls tennis, girls track and field, and softball. Our boys track and field recipient this week is LaVille junior Cole Stafford. He was nominated by coach Kathe Beehler. We had a minute to chat with Cole and about what events he participates in, along with the end of the season events. Cole is a busy guy, participating in the sprint events - 100, 200 and 400 - along with the 4X400 relay. "I really love the 4x400 even though the open 4 is kinda my thing," said Stafford. "But the 4x4 and working with my teammates ... I love it." As the regular season winds down, Cole and the rest of his teammates are gearing for conference and the state tournament. "Man, it's just going to be busy ... a couple of (sprint) heats, then relays. It's looking like a lot of people trying to go out and get a win." During the off days (when there are no meets), Cole has taken some time to work on the little aspects of his mechanics. "The season has been going great. With (head coach) Kathe (Beehler) helping me out in the 400 timing my relays and runs, little check marks, working on my block work. It's been going great! Really looking forward to it." As we closed our time, Cole expressed his appreciation for Jersey Mike's Subs sponsoring the athlete of the week. "Honestly I feel really honored. It's really special to win athlete of the week. I love Jersey Mike's and I am excited to go there and get some grub." LaVille's is scheduled to participate in the IHSAA state tournament at the sectional level on May 22 at Penn High School.
