Track & Field Finishes With 'Class' At IHSAA Girls Regional

WARSAW - Four members of the LaVille girls track and field team participated in the IHSAA Warsaw Regional Tuesday night. Lancer seniors Reagan Bollenbacher, Brooke Edison, Mikalah Kuskye, and Moriah Richhart stepped up with a chance to move on to the IHSAA state finals. Bollenbacher, Edison, and Richhart each represented LaVille in the field events, while Kuskye earned her way into the field of 16 runners in the 400 meter dash. The field events got the Warsaw Regional competition rolling with discus, high jump pole vault, and long jump.  Bollenbacher landed a toss of 100-feet. 9-inches to finish third in her flight and put her into the discus finals.  In the event finals, she gave a fine effort to finish ninth overall and inches from scoring.  The regional discus champion was Gwen Howard of Whitko after a throw of 141'-1". At the high jump runway, Edison cleared the bar at 4'-8" and 4'-10" before bowing out in her three attempts at 5'-o".  The regional high jump champion was Kaulee Neuenschwander of Fremont with a clearance of 5'-4". Kuskye, meanwhile, competed in the first of two sections of the 400M dash.  Kuskye put forth a fine battle against the clock and the competition, finishing in 1:04.44.  The 400M regional titlist was Kristina Petkova of Goshen in 56.24. The shot put event was the final field event of the evening, throwing after the discus.  Richhart capped off a toss of 34'-9" to finish the qualifying round in ninth place and secure a spot in the finals.  In the final round, she registered a distance of 36'-0.75" to bump up one spot and finished the evening with an eighth-place effort and earning LaVille's one team point.  Her final toss was less than an inch away from moving into seventh place.  The shot put champion was Howard of Whitko with a final measurement of 47'-3". "I'm so proud of the girls," said LaVille coach Erin Ecker. "Everyone competing tonight was a senior and we had some PRs and we had some girls advance to the finals."They worked so hard to make it here. The seniors not competing showed up to cheer their team on.  Everyone finished the season with class. It's been an honor coaching them."
