PERU - The volleyball team opened the 2025 season at the Peru Invitational Saturday. Coach Pat Gring's Lancers finished 1-3 on the day against a variety of competition at the Tig-Arena. Pool play started the day for the nine-team event. LHS started the day 0-2 in pool play, falling to North Miami and Huntington North. Following pool play, teams learned of their placement for the next final two matches of the day. Gring's club earned its first victory of the season with a 25-17, 25-17 victory.  The Lancers used solid serving, effective net game and scrappy defense to earn the 'W' over Carroll. Avery Lee, Madi Singleton, and Ragen Wagoner combined for six aces.  At the net, Wagoner and Olivia Markin were a solid duo on the attack, while Wagoner and Lily Voss combined for blocks at the net.  Meanwhile, on defense Lilly Higley and Faith Mejer kept the ball alive to set up the offense. "Seniors Olivia Markin, Faith Mejer, and Ragen Wagoner were strong today and good anchors for the team," said Gring of her upperclassmen. LaVille closed the tournament with a two-set setback to Rensselaer Central. We had a chance to ask coach Gring about her team over the course of the tournament. "If I were to choose one word for today's performances, I would have to say promising," said the sixth-year skipper.  "We definitely have some things to build into our muscle memory, but the girls are doing a phenomenal job at taking correction and putting that into play on the court. I would also say they are playing with improved energy and determination." LHS will have a busy week coming up, with matches at Elkhart Christian (Aug 19), at Argos (Aug 20), and the home opener against Bethany Christian (Aug 21).  PERU TOURNAMENT LaVille Results/Stats 1st Match - North Miami def.
