ARGOS - The rivalry continues ... Argos and LaVille have had quite the history in high school girls soccer. Be it regular season or the Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament  In 2024, the two rivals squared off in mid-September at Newton Park.  The Dragons outshot the Lancers 15-6 and posted a 3-0 victory. In the IHSAA Class 1A Argos Sectional, the two renewed their rivalry in the sectional semifinals. After a 1-1 stalemate, the two battled through two 7-minute overtime periods.  Morgyn Bacus scored in the 85th minute on a penalty kick to put Argos in the lead. Four minutes later, LaVille's Mackena Deason found the back of the net, assisted by Mikalah Kuskye, to tie the score again to close out overtime. The Lancers then outscored the hosts victory 4-2 in the shootout and advanced to the 1A sectional title match against Manchester. Now in 2025, LaVille and Argos both handed out their respective diplomas and a new group embarks upon the scene to carve their mark in the series. Since 2013, Argos leads the series, 15-4-2, including a win streak of 10 straight before a 1-1 tie in 2023. We had the chance to chat with LaVille goalie Denni Markin about tonight's match. "It is a local rivalry," said Denni.  "It will be a good match-up. We are excited.  Both teams are aggressive. It is a good match-up every year. We each have newcomers on our team. We know their goalie (Alydiah Leed) graduated last year. We generally see them twice a year and it's nice to get good competition early in the year. We know we will probably see them again in the sectional. "I think defense will determine the match tonight because they like to hold their line higher," continued Markin. "We are looking forward to a good match tonight and this will give us a good chance to see where we are right now." Game on ...
