LAKEVILLE - LaVille head football coach Jeff Kaiser knew his team needed to "play assignment football and stop their pass attack ... we will like the end result." The LHS Blue Crew defense played bend but didn't break on their way to a 42-9 victory Friday at Lancer Field. "In the first half we came out ready to play and got 14 points on the board and then we got a little complacent and weren't executing at the level we knew that we are capable of playing," said LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser. "However after a solid halftime speech, the team came out ready to take care of business." A Keenan Richhart fumble recovery put Kaiser's club inside the red zone for the first score of the game when Lancer quarterback Brayden Schwitz found tight end Noah Menis open for a 5-yard touchdown. Caleb Skiles added the first of six point-after kicks to give LaVille the early lead. Coach Kaiser's team then used a 5-play, 35-yard drive to hit paydirt. Schwitz found Konnor Amor open in the back, right-side of the end zone and LaVille led, 14-9, at the intermission. After a Cougar rally in the second quarter, the third period was all LaVille. The Lancers scored three touchdowns in six minutes, forced two interceptions and a Central Noble punt to pull away. Schwitz scored on a QB keeper, Cole Stafford on a rushing TD, and Menis caught his second TD pass to put the game away. "Our Offensive attack was led by our passing game as we saw Schwitz throw for 4 touchdowns and multiple guys were involved with that with Noah Menis leading the way with 2 touchdowns, but we must get the running game more involved as well," explained Kaiser. "That's been a focus point for us and will continue to be moving forward." Central Noble finished 13-of-27 passing for 194 yards and a touchdown, but the LaVille defense intercepted three passes and forced four fumbles of which one was recovered by the Lancers. "Defensively we played assignment football but need to sharpen up finishing plays," said Kaiser. "I was pleased with our second half and how we got after them with some intensity. Keenan Richhart was a big playmaker for us and finished with 7 TFL and a fumble recovery. We need him to build off of that performance upfront, and Konnor Amor had double digit tackles and an INT to help lead us on that side of the ball." LaVille improved to 2-1 overall and will face conference and neighborhood rival Bremen for Homecoming on September 12. Kick is scheduled for 7pm at Lancer Field. We asked Kaiser about the Indiana Northern State Conference opener against the Lions. "Big Big Week!!" exclaimed the Lancer coach. "It's Homecoming against a huge rival and neighbors to us in which many players, parents and community members know each other. This will also open up our INSC Conference play, which we are looking forward to getting going as well. Homecoming week is always a fun one for all students throughout the week and I am hopeful that we have a great student body come Friday night for our team. It's going to be a huge game for us. IT'S BREMEN ... ENOUGH SAID!" LAVILLE 42, CENTRAL NOBLE 9 At Lancer Field, Lakeville, IN.
