CULVER - It's Match Day for the LaVille girls soccer team. Coach Kevin Christy's Lancer club will travel to 1A #17 Culver Community on September 24. LaVille leads the series, 9-2-2, since 2010. And though LHS has dominated in recent history, the two teams have played to one win each, plus a tie through the last three meetings. "They have a good record," said Christy of Wednesday's opponent. "Their goal-scoring has been pretty tight. We have a few common opponents and those scores are similar." Culver is 11-0 so far this season, coming off a 3-1 victory over Westville on September 18. The two teams share four different common opponents this season. Both teams have defeated Westville, Rochester and Argos. The Cavs also defeated South Bend Riley, while the Lancers await the Wildcats on October 2. Sophomore Ava Mccune is the top scoring threat, coming in with 15 goals so far this season. Junior Eliana Andrzewski has added eight goals this year, and senior Breana Hamilton has chipped in with six goals. "They have speed up top, but so do we," explained Christy. "We have a strong defense and we've had good mid-field play. The younger players are starting to understand what we are trying to do and it has been great to see. We are coming along." LHS opened the season 4-0 before losing 1-0 to Western (now 10-3) in the championship match of the Manchester Invitational. The Lancers are 1-5-1 in their last seven matches and are looking to end a three-match losing streak. "We have had a few days off and a chance to work on some things," noted the Lancer boss. "We are feeling good about tonight and look forward to a good game." Let's play ...
