LAKEVILLE - LaVille head football coach knew going into Friday's Indiana Northern State Conference game against 3A #5 Knox, his team was in for a challenge. A challenge from the Redskin quarterback turned running back Myles McLaughlin and the entire KHS roster of players. McLaughlin ran much of the game from a single-back set. The Knox offensive line, led by guards Gage Craig and Nigel Thompson, opened holes and lanes for much of the game as McLaughlin rushed for 457 yards and seven touchdowns. The Knox offense did not attempt a pass and never had to as they methodically moved the ball down field. Impressive is the one word that best describes Knox in their visit Friday to LaVille at Lancer Field. Coach Russ Radtke's club came in and executed the game plan and, after an early challenge from LHS, ripped off 40 unanswered points in a 62-16 conference victory over the Lancers. The win improved the Redskins to 6-0 overall and McLaughlin had two rushing touchdowns in just a bit over 5:30 minutes to put the guests up 16-0. LaVille's passing game supplied some much-needed offense when QB Brayden Schwitz found Dylan Miller down the near sideline for a 38-yard score. "Felt early on after giving up a couple scores, our guys locked in a bit and executed some big plays to keep things interesting," Though the Knox offense kept its engine revving as McLaughlin danced in from 10 yards out, LaVille hung tough. Schwitz led the Lancer offense down field when he found Cole Stafford on a little swing pass out of the backfield. Stafford caught the ball, made a defender miss, broke a tackle at about the 12 and dove into the end zone to keep things close at 22-16. "The two solid TD completions were what we knew we could do to them," explained Kaiser. "So the confidence between our QB and his receivers is there, we just didn't have them hook up enough when needed." Knox, however, found a way to score three touchdowns on consecutive drives to pull away. "(They) scored when they needed to, which allowed them to open the game up," Kaiser said when asked about the two quick TDs to close the second quarter and then on the first drive of the third period. "Anytime you give up a TD right before half is not what we want." The Lancers battled on both sides of the ball, but the strength, experience and execution were the difference for Knox. Schwitz finished 9-of-24 for 225 yards, one interception and two TD passes for LaVille. LaVille moves to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the INSC. The Lancers travel to John Glenn for a big rivalry matchup next Friday. "As a staff we feel the guys are playing hard each and every time they go to battle on Friday nights," closed Kaiser. "We just need to shore up our mistakes and play assignment football."
