LAKEVILLE - The girls soccer team played host to South Bend Riley in a rescheduled high school match at Newton Park Thursday night. This time it was part of a boy-girl doubleheader, along with Senior Night recognition for the Lancers. Prior to the start of the Riley-LaVille match, the LaVille girls soccer program recognized Claire Wainscott, Macie Edwards, and Kelsi Andert, along with their parents. When the match got under way, it was a defensive struggle through most of the first half until the Lancers made a breakthrough. Madison Mishler was on the receiving end of a pass from Sydney Williams and Mishler confidently knocked the ball into the net for the early lead. Mishler converted on a pair of goals in the second half, compliments of assists by Macie Edwards, for the final margin. The Lancer defense remained strong and teamed together with goalie Denni Markin for the shutout. Coach Kevin Christy's club improved to 6-9-1 overall and snapped a seven-match losing streak. LaVille is scheduled to meet the winner of the Rochester-Argos match in the second semifinal of the IHSAA sectional October 9.
