WALKERTON - LaVille head football coach Jeff Kaiser took his kids back to the film room prior to Friday's Indiana Northern State Conference high school football game with John Glenn. Yes, this is a big rivalry game. According to senior Braedyn Foster, the Lancers have "had October 3 circled since last summer." Friday at John Hostrawser Field, Kaiser's classroom discussion paid big benefits as LaVille dominated John Glenn, 45-0. "We finally put it all together," said Kaiser just minutes after the game. "We came right out of the blocks ... being physical. We have been working hard on that line (recently). (It's been) tough competition and we were just coming up short." John Glenn took the opening kick off , but found little room to operate and was forced to punt to the Lakeville guests. LaVille took advantage of a dominant offensive line that helped the running game average five yards a carry. Stafford busted his way into the end zone and, following a failed 2-point attempt, LaVille led 6-0. The Falcons pushed their way into Lancer territory, but a personal foul penalty turned a would-be first down into another punt. After a fine JG punt pushed the ball to the LaVille nine, LHS took advantage of nice touch passes from Schwitz to Konnor Amor that got the offense inside Falcon territory. The LaVille QB found Stafford for a 17-yard pitch and catch. The short two-point pass was successful and LaVille moved ahead 14-0. Kaiser's crew used solid play on both sides of the ball and recovered the first of two Glenn fumbles during a kick off. Schwitz ended up high-tailing it 30 yards to pay dirt and it was a three-score game. The Lancers took a 31-0 lead into intermission following a 36-yard field goal from Caleb Skiles and a 21 -yard pass from Schwitz to Noah Mennis. In the second half, John Glenn had just three possessions and were forced to punt, lost its second fumble, and lost the ball on down near midfield. Kaiser was effusive about the entire team effort against the Falcons. When asked about what he liked about his Blue Crew defense, the third-year boss said, "Aggressive. We understood the scheme, we played hard and we made a lot of plays tonight." The LaVille defense held Glenn's running game to 55 hard-earned rushing yards, forced two fumbles and had an interception. "We have focused on (the offensive line)," explained Kaiser. "We amped them up a little bit, got that confidence built up. We critiqued them a little bit on the last two game films. We were doing some things right, we weren't exactly playing assignment football. I am anxious to watch our film, but from what I saw tonight in person was really nice. We just gotta keep building." Stafford picked up 159 yards on 23 carries for a touchdown and was on the receiving end of two TD passes. LaVille's running game put out over 300 yards, while Schwitz helped the cause with three touchdown passes on six completions for 92 yards and two rushing TDs. "We got the running backs running hard and we got Schwitz making good decisions," concluded Kaiser. "We had a great week of practice." LHS improves to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in INSC play. Kaiser's crew will travel to Jimtown on October 10. John Glenn now 2-5/1-3 will play host to Tippecanoe Valley, also Oct 10.
