LAKEVILLE - In what was very likely its best played high school boys soccer match of the season, LaVille challenged Elkhart Christian Academy for a spot in the IHSAA Class 1A Sectional championship. Both teams battled the entire match - through regulation and then overtime - before the Eagles found a way to punch the ball in the back of the net in a thrilling, edge of your seat, 2-1, victory over the Lancers. After a scoreless first half, LHS was able to convert a free kick by Caden Wise near the midway point of the second half to take the early lead. ECA pressed on and pushed up late in the match when Henry Brown connected for the match-tying shot with 12 minutes remaining. The two clubs continued with tough defense as regulation time expired with the score 1-all. LHS and ECA played to a 0-0 stalemate in the first seven minute OT before John Sikoski was able to slip a shot past the LaVille defense with a bit over a minute left in the match. Coach Keith Norman's club fought valiantly before the Eagles slipped away with a 2-1 decision and the right to play in the sectional championship Oct 11 at Newton Park. The Lancers finished 2025 up with a 9-6 overall record, their first winning season since 2017.
