LAKEVILLE - It's Week #9 in the IHSAA football regular season. LaVille, like every other team in the state, wants to grab hold of momentum and stay healthy heading into the IHSAA state tournament in a week. LHS (4-4) will close the regular by playing host to Whiting (2-6) Friday at Lancer Field.  Kick is scheduled for 7:30pm and LaVille will also recognize its seniors in football (pre-game), band and cheer (halftime), along with their parents. Coach Jeff Kaiser's club is riding a two-game winning streak after a thrilling 28-27 overtime victory at Knepp Field at Sharpe Stadium a week ago and a big INSC shutout win at John Glenn the week before. "The last two games resulting in wins are big in many ways, but the most important thing is how we have been able to accomplish those wins," noted the Lancer boss.  "At Glenn we left no doubt on the field and then last week at Jimtown we had an opportunity to put them away and didn't get it done but when our backs were against the wall we responded and got the big win." We had the chance to ask Kaiser about the seniors on the team, this week's opponent - Whiting, and keys to a Lancer victory. On The Seniors: "These Seniors are special in the sense that they have been on the side of domination in their start of high school career and then have been on the side of teams hovering the .500 mark.  They have been a part of some big wins throughout their career that I hope they know that with the hard work and grind that they have put in for 4 years, that it  does not go unnoticed.  They are a group up for any challenge that is put in front of them and they work well together finding success." On Whiting: "Whiting has some great team speed and size upfront to go with it.  They will spread you out at times and then switch to a power package so we have to be ready to defend those extremes.  Defensively they will play a 4-3 and like to play man coverage in the secondary. " Keys To Victory: "We need to shore up our penalties to start with.  We had nearly 90 yards in penalties last week so that is a concern this late in season.  We have to win the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and then tackle well.  If we do these things consistently we will like the outcome." GAMEDAY Teams: Whiting (2-6) at LaVille (4-4) Site: Lancer Field, Lakeville, IN. Kick: 7:30PM ET Coaches: Thomas Knight, 2-6 in 1st year at Whiting. Jeff Kaiser, 21-12 in 3rd year at LaVille Last Outing: Whiting lost to Wheeler, 52-0. LaVille defeated Jimtown, 28-27, OT All-Time Series: Whiting leads LaVille, 6-5 Last Meeting: LaVille def. Whiting, 56-20, Oct 18 2024
