BREMEN - Coming off its second straight IHSAA sectional title, the LaVille girls soccer team's opponent was going to be very familiar. Bremen and LaVille met at Jane's Park in the IHSAA regional semifinal for the right to play for a regional championship and something neither had accomplished. BHS defeated LHS, 3-0, at Newton Park on September 11. The 9.11 date was a big Indiana Northern State Conference match. This one was big, too, with a little more on the line. "Yeah, you know that both the schools are so close and this is a rivalry," said LaVille coach Kevin Christy as he scanned over to the fans across the field. "We knew there was going to be a lot of fans in attendance for this one. And we are glad they came." The Lions got off to a quick start as leading scorer Avary Malcom put the hosts on the scoreboard first. The senior finished the match with three goals as Bremen won the match, 7-0. "We played a really good team and the kids played really hard," said LaVille coach Kevin Christy. "Bremen's really good, the best we played all year. We knew it coming in. We hate to see it come to an end." Christy's crew graduates just three seniors off a team that graduated six a year ago, but still finished 8-10-1 and a second straight sectional trophy. It's still difficult to watch seniors leave your program. "Always hard to see the seniors go," Christy said when asked about Kelsi Andert, Maci Edwards, and Claire Wainscott. "They put everything they can into it. It's always hard when you've got to watch the seniors leave the last 10 seconds." With a possible 17 players returning for the 2026 season, including nine freshmen from this season, Christy shared about the players coming back. "Obviously the future is bright," noted the Lancer boss. "We talked to the seniors a few weeks ago that we are getting better and doing the right things and it is unfortunate that they don't get to be a part of that. But they are a part of building a culture with the seniors from last year. Everytime the seniors go they build a little bit for the next team." LaVille finished the season at 8-10-1 overall.
