CULVER - The 2025 Indiana high school football regular season is in the books. It's time for the second season. In the present all-in football format set forth by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, 1997-98 was the first year every school with football entered a multi-class tournament. GAMEDAY takes a look at the 1A Sectional #41 game between LaVille and Culver as the 53rd annual state football tournament kicks off with 97 games on Friday, October 24. This is the 54th meeting since 1976 between the two former conference rivals. LaVille leads the series, 41-12, and the Lancers have won the last 12 straight. The last Culver win came via a 43-36 decision on October 18, 2013. IHSAAtv.org will bring the LaVille-Culver game via live stream. The stream is scheduled to begin at 6:55pm and kick off is set for 7pm from Cavalier Field. LHS enters the game with a 5-4 overall record following a 70-7 senior night victory over Whiting. "Last week we played to our level against a struggling team," said LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser, who watched his team win its third game in a row. "What was nice about that is we did not play down to their level and played LaVille football, aggressive and our younger guys were ready to go and played hard." Kaiser's crew used plenty of firepower as quarterback Brayden Schwitz threw for a single game record six touchdown passes, receiver Dylan Miller caught a career-high three TD passes, and running back Cole Stafford rushed for over 100 yards for the second time this season. Peyton Cline also caught his first career varsity TD pass and Lawrence Wood ran for a career-high 78 yards, including a career-high 63 yard scoring sprint. "We like for many guys to contribute to what we do and this past Friday every player in our high school program did just that!" exclaimed Kaiser. Culver, meanwhile, brings a 3-6 overall record after a 44-7 victory over South Central (Union Mills) a week ago. The Cavaliers used five turnovers and the offense was sparked by a 25-yard pitch and catch from quarterback Jonas McCuen to Caleb McCuen and a 97-yard pick 6 to register its highest offensive output of the season. "We will see an aggressive Culver team that is big upfront," Kaiser said of the Cavaliers. "They are a run heavy team but will put the ball in the air with their athletic QB. We must own the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, tackle well and execute our plays at the level we know we can for 48 minutes. If we don't do these things, it's not going to be the outcome we want." Defensively, Drake Zorich and Theron Carrington, along with several of the names mentioned above are key for coach Austin Foust. A LaVille victory on October 24 would have the Lancers either travel to North Judson-San Pierre or play host to South Central (Union Mills) on Friday, October 31 in the semifinal round of the 1A Sectional #41 bracket.
